This new house in the historic town of Alviso will replace a former cottage destroyed by flood from a salt pond levee breach 30 years ago. New zoning laws require elevated living areas above the flood plain forcing innovative programming for the limited ground floor use. In addition to stringent city requirements, the house and site are planned for accessibility by its aging occupant. Vernacular construction methods are interpreted through reductive, modern forms and materials.
