The owners sought to expand a mid-century, mid-block house to make room for their growing family and guests. A new third story and rear-yard addition provided just the space they needed. The new third floor is a modern pavilion perched above the original stucco structure. Daylight bathes the interior through multiple skylights, windows and operable walls. Spaces for outdoor entertaining and gardening are available on two roof decks. Steel frames support glazed windscreens, trellises and solar pv panels. Plentiful views of the San Francisco hills and skyline are a lively urban backdrop for this all-purpose retreat.
