A third floor addition with complete interior and exterior renovations was designed for a quirky house on a unique city property. The existing cottage, originally built in 1904, is an island surrounded by gardens overlooking the Bay: the new design expands the building vertically for the needs of a growing family while protecting the mature landscaping around the house. The modern vernacular vocabulary celebrates the singular qualities of this special urban environment. Sustainable features include: high-performance wood windows, FSC-certified cedar siding, hydronic radiant heat, reclaimed timber floors, low-VOC paint, ipe decking, and a solar PV array.
